Portugal - Agrupamento Escolas Trigal Santa Maria

Our school is located in a small city called Tadim which is located in a semi-rural area, next to a big city called Braga, in the north of Portugal. We have approximately 870 students from 3 to 15 years and 102 teachers. The students go from kindergarten to the 9th-grade elementary school. The school covers only the regular program from our ministry of education. The majority of the students is from this rural area. Most of our students come from families that work mainly in the fields or in small family industries. Some come from one parent families and have social needs. Some have divorced parents and a few are orphans. Almost 8% of students have special education needs. We have very few students coming from other countries (Ukraine, Cabo Verde, France, Brasil) and also have Roma students. Our immigrant students have the support of a Portuguese teacher to help them to cope with language difficulties. Most of our students are not used to deal with students from other nationalities or even with refugees. The participation in this project will be important to develop the European  citizenship of students and to let them realize that there are opportunities for them waiting outside the small place where they live. The main motivations are the chance that our students will have to interact with students from other countries and to have a better understanding of their culture and habits. Like that they will have a better understanding of Europe and of European values developing a bigger tolerance towards other cultures.

Greece - 56 Junior'S High School of Athens

We are a public junior high school, located in Athens downtown, in which are enrolled over than 250 students, aged between 13-16 years. Most of them are mainly children of economic immigrants. Their origins are mainly Albania and Philippines, but also there are students from Egypt, Bulgaria, Poland, Georgia, Syria, Turkey and Ukraine. The percentage of Greek students is around 10%. Over the last two years, we have received refugee students from Syria and Afghanistan.Only 50% of foreign students were born in Greece and have completed their studies in a Greek elementary school. The use of the Greek language is limited and therefore difficulties arise in teaching and communication. The most important problem we face is their inadequate preparation for their smooth integration into the Greek educational system and the permanent functioning of integration and  reception departments alongside the school timetable. Based on the above characteristics, we are called to manage a variety of problems in terms of teaching and school life in general. Worrying about the gradual change of our student potential from purely Greek to multicultural and to multinational, we are pondering the management of the mixed classes that are emerging, looking for new ways of approaching with students and their families, and we want to respond effectively to the new real conditions, using new teaching methods and skills to be more effective teachers. Since last year we run a project, we play with emotions approved by the National Education Department through movements (sports, dance) we try to focus on developing a more emotional approach from students.
We have been trying to develop their emotions, their body knowledge, their self-awareness, selfesteem, and interpersonal relationship. We want to join this project to increase reading and language skills of our students, also take the education to the next level. We have experience of forming reading projects, as we were partners with the Turkish school in the project of "I read and I realize" which was a project of reading and cultural exchange. Our team work consisting of 26 persons actively participate and look for ways and tools to sensitize our students, develop social skills, accept diversity, cultivate a climate of co-existence by participating in experiential seminars, training in ICT and at postgraduate level studies. Our priority is the harmonious coexistence, the offering of a perfect pedagogical work under the present conditions, the personal satisfaction of students and teachers, the communication of school-parents-local society.

They are open to innovations and work methodically to improve themselves and contribute to the development of all students. They aim to enable our students to adapt to the new era and question and be curious about the life itself. They work for the favor of our students and our country as a whole as the expectancy of National Educational Target Vision 2023. Our teachers also work as ‘training coaches’ to observe the level of their students and at the same time they get in touch with their families in the process. In the recent years we have developed several eTwinning projects as a participant or coordinator. We have five eTwinning projects in 2018-2019 school year. (Supporting Gender Equality, Young Journalists, Zoom Yourself, Generating Materials, Was ist wichtig?) Our school carries on the MUN (Modeling United Nations) projects. Teachers of all subjects take part in the TUBITAK projects which are the cornerstone of the latest innovations or technological developments in our country. We formed a reading project before with the Greek school in this project, called "I read and I realize" which aimed improvement of language and reading skills. We also aimed strengthening cultural bonds with Greece. We believe that our cooperation in that project will be beneficial for this project. We want to take the project to another step with joining to this project. As we don't have any KA2 experience as a school, we want to give this opportunity to our students, staff and school.
